André Mazelin

André Mazelin (he/him) joined Dance Place as Executive Director in August of 2022, bringing with him a wealth of experience and expertise in arts management. In his role, André is responsible for overseeing the development and growth of Dance Place, which includes guiding its strategic direction, providing operational oversight, managing talent acquisition and retention, overseeing finances, and ensuring legal compliance.

Before joining Dance Place, André served as the Senior Manager for Prince George’s Community College Center for Performing Arts (CPA), where he played a pivotal role in its launch in 2019. The Center for Performing Arts boasts an impressive 170,000 square foot facility with five diverse performance venues, including the Grand Theater, Proscenium Theater, Black Box Theater, Dance Presentation Studio, and Recital Hall, along with additional amenities such as a television studio, radio station, and recording studio.

During his tenure at CPA, André successfully navigated the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, leading the center through three seasons, including a pivot to a fully virtual season. Notable highlights of his time at CPA include the presentation of renowned performances by Ailey II, Dance Theater of Harlem, as well as hosting impactful events such as “A Conversation with Ibram X. Kendi,” soul singer Raheem Devaughn in tribute to Marvin Gaye, and a live taping of Michelle Obama in conversation with Yara Shahidi, alongside local students, for presentation on BET.

Prior to his role at CPA, André held various arts leadership positions in Baltimore, Maryland, including Managing Director of Motor House and Operations Director of Creative Alliance at the Patterson. He has also served multiple times as a grant panelist for the Maryland State Arts Council.

Originally from Montego Bay, Jamaica, André immigrated to the U.S. with his family as a child. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Baltimore and an Associate Degree in Music and Video Business from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. With his diverse background and extensive experience, André is committed to furthering Dance Place’s mission and fostering its growth within the arts community.
