Adam “AJ” Johnson

Adam (AJ) Johnson (he/him) is a sound designer and engineer who comes to Dance Place from Arena Stage, where he worked on sound and video for more than 50 productions over 10 seasons, and mixed musicals including the world premieres of Dear Evan Hansen and Born For This.  His local design credits include work at Olney Theatre Center, Studio Theatre, and Chesapeake Shakespeare Company. He has also worked as a freelance designer and engineer for a variety of theatre, music, and dance productions at venues all over the DMV including Millennium Stage, Round House Theatre, GALA Hispanic Theatre, and the Atlas PAC.  Previous credits include Trinity Repertory Company, Heritage Theatre Festival, and Berkshire Theatre Festival. AJ comes from a background in percussion, beatboxing, and a cappella music, and has a passion for the musical possibilities of the human body.  In his spare time, he thrives on board games, trivia, crossword puzzles, and too many podcasts to count. He holds a degree in Drama from the University of Virginia.
