Seeking New Development Manager

Dance Place, a nationally recognized cultural arts center in Washington, DC, seeks a Development Manager specializing in grant writing. This is a 40 hour per week, salaried, year-round position with benefits. The ideal candidate will have 2-3 years of non-profit arts grant writing experience and embrace Dance Place’s mission to build a community of artists, audiences and students through high quality performances, commissions, training and educational programs and our commitment to enriching the field of dance locally, nationally and internationally. Position Overview

The Development Manager will be responsible for all grant writing and reporting and will work in collaboration with the development team, including the Executive Artistic Director, Individual Giving Associate and interns, in carrying out the organization’s unified development plan. They will collaborate with the development team on special initiatives and working with the Individual Giving Associate on special events and appeals. They will also work closely with the Financial Director and the Executive Artistic Director in grants oversight and Dance Place’s financial health and long-range financial planning. Responsibilities

  • Write all grant applications, including foundation, corporate and government
  • Collaborate on artist grants raised by programming office
  • Execute all reporting requirements for grants and government contracts
  • Work in collaboration with Individual Giving Associate to create overall fundraising calendar
  • Collaborate with development team and Executive Artistic Director to identify donor prospects (individuals and grant makers), create cultivation calendar and arrange/ host site visits
  • Collaborate with Communications Director and development team to create institutional marketing initiatives and materials
  • Oversee budgeting for all contributed revenue in collaboration with Individual Giving Associate
  • Financial management of all restricted grants and contributions in partnership with Financial Director, Individual Giving Associate and Executive Artistic Director
  • Assist Executive Artistic Director and Financial Director in budgeting for the organization, as well as the audit process, projections, reserves, cash flow and other procedures as necessary
  • Report to Board as needed

Required Skills / Qualifications

  • 2-3 years experience in professional fundraising
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Exceptional grant writing skills
  • Experience in grants compliance and reporting
  • Have knowledge and experience in fundraising techniques, including events, grants applications and reporting, major gift fundraising
  • Ability to work autonomously and in teams in a fast-paced environment
  • Be a goal driven, self-starter, capable of initiating donor visits and fundraising calls
  • Be organized and exhibit follow through on tasks and goals
  • Display a positive attitude, show concern for people and community, demonstrate presence, self-confidence, common sense and good listening ability
  • Attention to detail with excellent time management skills
  • Highly organized and creative with deep enthusiasm for the arts
