Beauty Happens, a contemporary dance by Brit Falcon/Falcon Dance will be shared with audiences on June 22 at 7:00PM at Dance Place, as part of the esteemed Dance Place Co-Presentation Series. This one-hour, no-intermission work, features eight dynamic and diverse dancers, diving into the depths of intimacy, exploring themes of resilience and evolution through sight, touch, sound, and relentless physicality.
Inspired by bird behavior and the interrogation of Darwin’s theory of Sexual Selection, Beauty Happens transports its dancers into a vibrant world where the boundaries between observer and observed are blurred. The choreography is rooted in the creation and deconstruction of survival strategies, with particular emphasis on the flocking patterns, nesting habits, and homing instincts of birds.
The work is characterized by rhythms that highlight the dancers’ energy, sensuality, and dynamic presence. Engaging in a mating dance with self and body as an ungoverned dwelling, the dancers navigate the delicate boundary between love and violence. As their bodies collide, tumble, swirl, catch, and caress, themes are revealed. The work is an exploration in queer ecology.
This work is supported by the Dance Place Co-Presentation Series.
