Dance Place’s annually curated showcase features some of the best new works by established and emerging choreographers. This performance features 2019 New Releases Commission recipient Bre Seals.
Please read the following:
- Auditions will take place in the Cafritz Foundation Theater at Dance Place.
- Recorded music must be on player with standard 1/8″ input (if applicable).
- Competitive applicants will have a strong connection to the DMV region. Housing and travel are not provided.
- Work must be completed and performance ready (including costumes and sound).
- Maximum length for each piece is 12 minutes.
- Audition slots are 15 minutes each.
- In addition to live performance, the New Releases adjudication panel will also consider works that are dance for the camera. All dance films will be required to be presented during an audition slot to be considered. The artist must bring their dance film on a charged laptop, already downloaded to their laptop (please do not depend on wifi / streaming) to their designated audition slot. Dances on film submissions must adhere to the same New Releases time limits and artist residency restrictions as works performed live.

- free tuition to participate in Fieldwork for Mixed Disciplines which concludes with a works-in-progress showing of the commissioned work.
- an additional performance stipend to premiere the commissioned work in a short-form presentation opportunity in the 2020-2021 season
***If a choreographer must cancel their audition, please do so by Monday, December 30, 2019 so that artists on the waiting list may have audition slots allocated to them.
