Double Jump Fellowship

Image Description: A dancer is dressed in a light-colored tank top and flowing pants, moving dynamically across a dimly lit stage. The backdrop consists of draped fabric, softly illuminated with warm, dramatic lighting that creates a sense of depth and texture. The “Dance Place” logo is positioned in the top-left corner, accompanied by the text “2024 – 2025 Season”.

Vision:

The Double Jump Artist Fellowship Program at Dance Place offers a dynamic two-year support structure designed to elevate the creative practices of mid-career artists in the DMV area. Building upon its origins as the Artist in Residence (AIR) Program, Double Jump redefines what it means to provide support and structure for artists, allowing them to cultivate their work while fostering authentic community engagement.

Inspired by the concept of the “double jump” in video games, this program offers artists the ability to make a leap in their artistic journey—changing direction mid-course and landing precisely where they feel their career needs to evolve. Just as a double jump in a game allows for greater precision and creativity, the Double Jump Fellowship gives artists the tools and resources to refine and transform their practice with intention, rigor, and care. This fellowship is tailored to empower artists to push the boundaries of their craft, supporting their growth both artistically and within their community.

Mission:

Double Jump aims to provide a comprehensive framework of resources to help artists deepen and elevate an artist’s work. The program’s support allows artists to engage with their practices in a meaningful way, encouraging a balance between artistic development and community engagement. Artists will receive personalized attention and the freedom to experiment, collaborate, and grow through:

  • Monetary compensation ($2,000)
  • 2 Year Commitment
  • Additional paid work opportunities
  • Rehearsal space (20 hours a month)
  • Community development activations (Audience development & public engagement)
