Dance Place Seeks Junior Staff Program Manager & Energizers Afterschool Manager

Dance Place, a nationally recognized cultural arts center in Washington, DC, seeks a part-time manager for its Junior Staff program and a part-time manager for its Energizers Afterschool Club program. Position reports directly to Dance Place’s Director of Education Shannon Quinn.

 

Junior Staff Program Description:

In this leadership program, teens ages 13-19 are provided with work training shifts as office aides, teaching assistants, theater tech assistants, front of house staff and facility maintenance. Junior Staff work with Dance Place staff members in departments such as youth programs, marketing, development, box office and production. In addition, Junior Staff take part in free weekly arts electives (visual arts, dance, drumming and more) and Monday life skills sessions (job training, financial management, communication skills, team building, college readiness). Teens receive an honorarium for positive participation in all aspects of the program.

Areas of Responsibility:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Implement and enhance established self-development curriculum
  • Select junior staff participants
  • Lead weekly meetings for participants
  • Guide trainings
  • Organize art electives, schedule weekly work shifts and monitor participant participation.
  • Evaluate program with established tools and work closely with Director of Grants on program reporting
  • Create and follow a program budget
  • Engage with program alumni
  • Keep track of program data for program reports
  • Communicate with participants and their parents
  • Afternoon work shifts are set by Director of Education
  • Work under the supervision of the Director of Education

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree or comparative experience in youth education
  • Experience in youth leadership (teens 13-19)

Benefits:

  • 15 hours per week, year-round position
  • Summer hours to be expanded to 40 hours for 6 week summer camp
  • Employees are able to take an unlimited number of classes and attend Dance Place performances for free.

Energizers Afterschool Club Program Description:

Youth (ages 6-12) participate every day after school in a creative education curriculum that includes cooking, arts & crafts, horticulture, reading, writing and math. The program provides physical play, weekly dance classes, community service, homework help and more. The Energizers Afterschool Club meets Monday through Friday 4-6pm.

Areas of Responsibility:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Create and execute daily lesson plans with colleagues based on a set curriculum
  • Oversee and manage Energizers Afterschool Club youth leaders
  • Create and follow a program budget
  • Evaluate program using established tools
  • Work closely with Director of Education on curriculum and evaluations
  • Keep track of program data for program reports
  • Attend weekly staff meetings
  • Organize and process monthly tuition payments
