As we approach the conclusion of another chapter in our Artist-in-Residence (AIR) program, Dance Place invites you to celebrate the incredible contributions of our outgoing Artists-in-Residence, Ronya-Lee Anderson and Robert “Bambi” Woofter, at the AIR TIME: Season Party on November 2 at 7:00 PM.
A Journey of Creativity and Impact
Over the past two years, Ronya-Lee and Bambi have profoundly impacted our community through their unique artistry and dedication.
Ronya-Lee’s time with Dance Place was marked by her innovative multimedia approach, which integrated movement, live music, and audience interaction to create immersive experiences that resonated deeply. Her thought-provoking work, Black Madonna and Miss Amerika, presented in 2024, investigated the socio-political landscape through the lens of the Black female icon. In the spring of 2023, she showcased The Light Sessions, an interactive choreo-sonic journey exploring notions of fear and love. This captivating work combined original music, movement, and text, transforming the stage into a vibrant sensory experience that left a lasting impact on all who attended. During her residency, Ronya also taught contemporary house dance and repertory classes, sharing her expertise with the community.
While in residence at Dance Place, Robert “Bambi” Woofter brought us the cabaret extravaganza An Intimate Night with Bambi and Molasses, which explored themes of queer intimacy and the narratives that shape our identities. This captivating performance offered a kaleidoscope of gender, trust, sex, and support, inviting the audience into a space of genuine connection. In March 2024, he showcased The Dance Show, a glitter-filled retrospective highlighting his journey through the dance world, leaving audiences enchanted and entertained. Bambi’s innovative work challenged boundaries by blending the gaudy with the refined, creating a platform for truth-telling through the lens of fantasy. He infused humor and artistry into his presentations, drawing inspiration from queer nightlife, drag, ballet, and his own dance training. As an educator, Robert taught weekly ballet classes for adults of all ages and abilities, creating a unique and much needed experience for curious class takers.
