Dance Place is looking for an intern for spring 2025 to provide graphic design and social media support for 10 hours a week. Rooted in the United States capital, Washington D.C., Dance Place supports movement artists by creating opportunities for creative development, performance, and education. We strengthen the dance field by investing deeply in artists and centering those who have been systemically excluded from such opportunities.

Key highlights of this opportunity include:

  • Building a portfolio with real-world projects, from TikTok creation to print and digital designs.
  • A focus on creative storytelling through video and graphics to promote dance performances and classes.
  • Learning and practicing essential tools like Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and WordPress, while supporting meaningful, inclusive artistic work.
  • Experience in a collaborative yet independent working environment.

This hybrid opportunity requires the intern to be on the Dance Place campus for approximately 4-5 hours a week to take video footage with their phone. This may require evenings and weekends (when many performances and classes occur). The work consists of:

  • Producing video for use on social media, including video reels for IG & TikTok.
  • Producing and designing graphics for social media and the web.
  • Creating the Dance Place TikTok account and video content to enhance visibility.
  • Create effective marketing materials for brand promotion.
  • Adding events, and performances to online calendars to promote performances and classes.
  • Some minor updating of the Dance Place website in WordPress.
  • Strong written communications skills.

We seek a student who can work with Premiere, Google Suite, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign and use all social media platforms. Creating reels for IG and other social media is required. Some work in WordPress is needed, too.

Communication:

We meet on Google Meet, speak on the phone, and use Google Chat to communicate. Intern must work independently, collaborate with a team, and participate in scheduled meetings online and occasionally in person at the Dance Place campus.

Skills Desired:

  • Graphic Design
  • Illustration
  • Video Editing
  • Typography
  • Marketing
  • Social Media

While the ideal student does not have to be an expert in the above software, they should be willing to learn, ask questions, and work independently.

Students keep track of their time and work in Google docs. They must have their own laptop computer.

Pay:

Unpaid, but we work with the University of Maryland to ensure 3-credits are provided for the semester.

Perks:

Free dance classes and performances.

Feel free to send your resume to ktd@danceplace.org with "Dance Place Spring Internship" in the title and a link to your online portfolio.
