Call for Film Submissions

Art on 8th: Dance on Film Series

Through the medium of film, we are able to teleport instantly into other communities and environments. As part of Dance Place’s free outdoor Art on 8th season, we are announcing a new Dance on Film Series, curated by Carolyn Hoehner. This Series will serve as an open forum for completed, in progress or experimental dance films to be viewed by a welcoming community of local DC artists and patrons.

From series curator Carolyn Hoehner: “My work with the Washington Jewish Film Festival has reinforced my belief in the ability of film to form an artistic bridge between distant or disparate communities. The increasingly egalitarian nature of film – thanks in part to the smart devices in our pockets – means that film is a platform we can access more easily than ever before. I can’t wait to bring the unique visions of dance filmmakers to Art on 8th this year!”

Live screenings will take place on July 11 and August 8 at Partner Organization Mess Hall’s Loading Dock. Selected submissions will receive a $100 award.

Films may be no more than 20 minutes in length. Attendance by the filmmaker at the live screenings a plus. Questions can be directed to Dance Place Associate Curator Sarah Greenbaum at sarahg@danceplace.org.
