Karen Cunningham

Karen Cunningham (she/her) is an accomplished nonprofit leader in the District of Columbia with a legal background, and has served as the Executive Director of Everyone Home DC since 2013. Under her guidance, the organization’s budget has grown significantly, reaching approximately $5.5 million in 2023. Karen’s leadership has been marked by notable achievements, including overseeing a racial equity assessment and navigating the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. She spearheaded strategic planning and rebranding efforts, positioning Everyone Home DC as a key participant in the District’s Family Homelessness Prevention Program. Karen’s foresight has expanded the organization’s advocacy work to prioritize the voices of people experiencing homelessness. Notably, she led the launch of a Permanent Supportive Housing Program and secured a multi-million dollar grant from the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund. Karen’s proudest accomplishment lies in fostering a healthy organizational culture dedicated to ending homelessness and addressing racial and economic inequality. Her legal career includes impactful work at Women Empowered Against Violence and The National Homelessness Law Center, where she focused on civil and human rights issues. A magna cum laude graduate of The Georgetown University Law Center, Karen continues to contribute to the DC Interagency Council on Homelessness and leads initiatives promoting racial equity and inclusion.
