Thresholds: Artist Advisory Council

The Artist Advisory Council stands as the cornerstone initiative of Dance Place’s new Thresholds program, embodying our belief that meaningful evolution emerges through collaborative community engagement. This committee brings together diverse artistic voices from our community to help shape the future of our programming while modeling the core principles of coming in, crossing over, moving through, and moving toward.

The council comprises seven artists and community organizers, representing a range of aesthetics, career stages, and lived experiences. Members commit to a two-year term, gathering monthly for deep dialogue, creative problem-solving, and collective visioning. These gatherings reflect the Thresholds ethos—a space where multiple perspectives converge, discomfort is embraced as a catalyst for growth, and consistent commitment fosters genuine relationship-building over time.

Through the Artists Advisory Committee, we’re not just planning programs—we’re cultivating a living laboratory where our four pillars of Consistency, Commitment, Discovery, and Grace find practical expression. As committee members navigate differences in opinion, explore new ideas, and hold space for one another’s growth, they model the very change we hope to nurture throughout our broader community.

By establishing the Artists Advisory Council as our first initiative, we affirm our commitment to centering artist voices and fostering collaborative leadership in all we do. True progress begins with reimagining how decisions are made, whose voices are amplified, and how power is shared—making this council not just a program component but a statement of our values in action.
