Image Description: A group of ten dancers poses dynamically against a dark background, with flowing orange and yellow fabric accentuating their movements. Their faces are adorned with bold yellow face paint, and they wear black clothes. The dancers’ expressions and gestures convey intensity and unity. The text reads “Dance Place 2024 – 2025 Season.” is visible in the bottom right corner.

November 17-21, 2024

During their time at Dance Place, the company will be developing ANTARANGA: Between You and Me, the first work in a duology, and explores themes of intimacy, connection, trust, and community among BIPOC women/femmes.

LETTER WRITING WORKSHOP

“Dear Beloved . . . “ Workshops Together, we will “write letters” to imagined ancestors and descendants, leaping our minds across time to connect with people who are part of us but who may seem very different from us. (“Letters” are loosely defined here: you may write words, you may create sentences and phrases; or you may create an embodied phrase of movement, or visual shapes and colors, or sounds that go beyond words.)

These “letters” are thematically connected our 2024 performance work, ANTARANGA: BETWEEN YOU AND ME which explores intimate connections across difference.
No experience or special skills required; just bring your open heart and curious mind. [We will provide accessible space at our Shawngrām Institute to gather for the workshop,] as well as letter-creation materials.

With the permission of participants, letters created in these workshops could be strung together to create a connective spell, to be shared in the theater lobby for the performance.

ANTARANGA: BETWEEN YOU AND ME is a National Performance Network (NPN) Creation & Development Fund Project co-commissioned by John Michael Kohler Arts Center, Links Hall, The Yard, Dance Place, and NPN. The Creation & Development Fund is supported by the Doris Duke Foundation, the Mellon Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Arts (a federal agency). For more information: www.npnweb.org
