40 years ago, Dance Place took root in Washington, D.C. Artists of all ages from around the world have found their home with us; on our stage, in our studios, and in our audiences. 40 years of growth, innovation, and resilience create the Dance Place of today.
From now through August 2021, Fortitude is the all encompassing theme of this year’s performances & events, youth & adult dance classes, and our youth enrichment programs. All these programs come together as a celebration that reflect back, honor the present, and think forward to the future.
Dance Place is here, and we continue to rise steady and strong. We ascend from our roots, into the histories carved in the trunk of our tree, and extend along the branches and leaves that activate our theater and studios, and now, your homes.
This year, we welcome you to celebrate with us.

From our new Board Co-Chairs Janice Marks and Adam Weers:
Welcome to Dance Place and our 40th anniversary season! FORTITUDE!
Despite the many challenges we face in these difficult times, Dance Place continues to find ways to keep you involved and keep you dancing. After all, that’s what we do—we dance.
We grieve for the lives lost to this global pandemic, and still we dance.
We protect ourselves, our audiences, and our students by social distancing, but still we dance.
We protest the institutionalized racism that pervades our nation, but we don’t stop dancing.
We create programs that bring together and celebrate the broad and diverse set of people that make up our community—by dancing.
We present performances, teach classes, host discussions on art and social justice, and reach audiences throughout the world. And we never stop dancing.
In the face of myriad challenges, Dance Place is thriving. Our incredibly talented staff, under the leadership of Executive Artistic Director Christopher K. Morgan, has adapted and evolved with amazing dexterity to keep our operations running, continue to pay artists, and set a stellar example for how a performing arts organization can shine in the midst of a crisis.
We invite you to celebrate this 40th anniversary with us by exploring new ways to connect, share and come together as a community. Throughout the year ahead, we will continue to offer many exciting performances, classes, and programs, whether or not we can see you in person.
We dance. Come and dance with us.
