Dance Place COVID-19 Updates
May 4, 2020
In light of ongoing developments with the COVID-19 pandemic, Dance Place will not convene onsite programming until further notice. This includes all remaining performances of our 2019-2020 AMPLIFY Presentation Series, our adult dance classes and youth programs. While we are heartbroken that we will not have the opportunity to present the incredible artistry of the AMPLIFY artists as originally planned, or connect with our students onsite, it is clear that the health of our community must come first.
Dance Place is working to reschedule many ceased presentations on a timeline to be determined in accordance with public health and safety recommendations. Meanwhile, we have launched a virtual programming series that keeps our community connected to artists, to our incredible teaching staff, and to one another. As Dance Place assesses the future of live performance and in-studio dance education, we are investigating a range of options as to how we will safely support artists, audiences, teachers, and students in our spaces and online. The pandemic and its accompanying financial impact have highlighted structural challenges and inequities in the field of dance and in our country. We take our role as a leader in our community seriously and are thinking carefully about how to best serve artists, audiences and neighbors as we all move forward.
Whether you join us in the studio, on the stage, or in the audience we thank you all for being a part of our community. We invite you to stay connected as we continue to share aspects of the AMPLIFY Season and our classes through our Virtual Programming.
Dance Place recognizes the profound impact cancelled or postponed classes and performances have on the financial well being of artists, whether they be onstage, backstage, front of house, or the educators in the studio. As such, Dance Place is committed to paying 50-75% of the fees that artists would have made during our closure. Supporting artists has always been, and will continue to be, our top priority.
While we are aware of the ever-changing landscape and uncertainty of these times for our community, Dance Place is still looking towards the future of our institution with optimism and confidence. Once deemed safe for our patrons, artists, and staff to return to our space, Dance Place will be ready to move forward, together, bringing forth a new resilience towards enriching the field of dance in our community.
Until then, we encourage you to stay home, stay safe, stay connected, and #keepdancing.
