The Trust for Public Land has included Dance Place’s 8th St Arts Park in their new e-book The Field Guide for Parks and Creative Placemaking as a key case study in how to revitalize and invigorate communities through the arts.
In this collection of studies by Matthew Goode, he writes, “The 8th St Arts Park has brought culture from inside the walls of the cultural institution to the outside, figuratively and literally.”
“The Field Guide” shines a spotlight on projects and organizations from throughout the country utilizing public space and the arts as a mechanism for community change. The 8th St Arts Park project is cited for our best practices in:
“1. Cultural organizations can transform communities and people by bringing their artistic practices into the public realm
2. Being cognizant of the requirements and restrictions of stakeholders and engaging them appropriately throughout the process is essential
3. Stewarding cultural activities in public space takes time and dedication; building manageable funding and staffing plans is critical.”
We are so honored to be highlighted in this influential study alongside Governers Island, Rose Kennedy Greenway and many more!
